\"Soul Search\" is one of my most advanced tunes for big band. It is inspired by the compositional style of the Pat Metheny Group, which uses several complex chord structures and unusual rhythms. Although the rhythms of this arrangement are not too difficult, the tessitura and harmonic considerations make this tune ideal for advanced high school or college groups. The bass part is mostly written out with some improv possible during the solo sections. This arrangement does require soprano sax in the lead and the soprano sax is featured in the solo section. The guitar (Metheny\'s instrument) and/or piano may also be used during the solo section. The drum part is mostly cymbals with some bass drum kicks and fills designed to imitate Paul Wertico, the Metheny Group\'s drummer for many years. For someone looking for something out of the ordinary, this arrangement would certainly be a unique addition to their big band repertoire.
