I was making breakfast one morning and began singing this tune in my head, so I ran and got some staff paper to write it down. In the process of sketching this melody, some bacon grease popped up, got my hand pretty good and I yelled "Man, that cat is hot!" Hence the title, "Los Gatos en el Fuego" or "The Cat in the Fire." This arrangement has three main sections, with the middle section in a 12/8 latin feel (a la "La Suerte de los Tontos"). Overall, this selection is quite difficult, due to the complex chords, disjunct melody lines and the screaming first trumpet part. The solos are in tenor sax and alto sax. If you've got some good sax soloists, a screaming trumpet and a drummer/percussionist that can burn a latin groove, this tune may be just thing for your band's repertoire.
