This piece is inspired by a quote from my grandson Kohen, who was almost 3 years old at the time. It was January of 2019 on the night of the blood moon lunar eclipse. Kohen was with us and had to go home before the eclipse, so we told him to get his Dad to let him watch the moon later that night. He said, I can see the moon in the window of my daddys truck. The moon always follows me home. I thought that was a very poetic thing for a 3-year old to say, so I went to work the next day on this piece - a lullaby for Kohen.
I have the tempo at 96 bpm, changing to 108 bpm. I would stay close to these tempo markings as possible so that it is not too slow. Be careful balancing the solos with the ensemble. The style is very legato throughout. Notes marked with tenuto should be tongued but sound slurred. Pay close attention to the dynamics for a more musical performance. This piece would be appropriate for a mature junior high band or any high school band.
